So the four musketeers; Sean, myself, Tori and Tyler, all headed out from Gecko guesthouse early and we were bundled into a taxi, onto the ferry, where Tori and I promptly fell asleep. We seem to have become quite adept at falling asleep almost at will on the transport, I also think this is helped by the travel sickness tablets I now have to take (a great time to develop travel sickness is whilst travelling around the world...) which make me a bit dopey, yes more than usual.
We stopped in Surat briefly at the ferry port, were harangued by touts for buses, and after hanging around for a while we bartered the price down to better than half. Being in a group of four is paying off really well for getting discounts. So, into a strange open ended jeep type taxi to the bus station, where we had a small wait before another bus, and we were finally on our way to Krabi.
There isn't much to Krabi town itself, but we still managed to find some shopping, so we dragged the boys around a bit and got some good deals on bags and Chang t-shirts. We also found a brilliant night market to eat at and had our first taste of real Thai food. Fried mussels and noodles yum!
One night in our hostel which was small but cool and it was on the road again to the dock and onto a long tail boat. They are curved wooden boats with a long bow and a small engine (completely open to the elements and straying limbs) with a huge long pole and a small propeller on the end. How such a small propeller powers such a long boat with ten people and their entire luggage I still don't know. It was a pleasant ride and not very long, watching the colour of the sea and the scenery slowly change.
