Railay Beach is not technically an island, but because there are no roads or transport links, the only way in is via boat so it is treated like an island. And the prices reflect this. It has become something of a luxury island and so finding budget accommodation was slightly harder than anticipated. Tori and I decided to leave the boys with the bags and the beers!) And set out to conquer the island. After two hours with an absolutely fruitless search, the best deal we could find was a double room with one extra bed, and sneaking a fourth person in round the back entrance. Ignoring the sleeping arrangements for the time being, we headed to the beach.
The beach was absolutely beautiful. Paradisiacal in Sean's words. We spent the afternoon and next day here relaxing, tanning, playing Frisbee, swimming in the amazingly calm sea and sometimes getting fruit juices when we could work up the energy. Sean and Tyler joined in the local footie game. The teams were tricky to understand at best. I decided that defending the goal was more fun and Hollywood passes was on the menu, well I tried anyway. A good work out after all the beach bathing. We had an excellent seafood BBQ and buffet in the evening. Red snapper and shark. We are so cultured here. A couple of cold Chang on the rooftop with a few rounds of Deal. Tori and Tyler have the card game version of Monopoly which we would highly recommend and we have become slightly addicted to. We are glad to have a break from Uno and have also played some more interesting card games than you can usually with two players. We get on really well and have lots in common. It is refreshing to have some girl chats and boy bonding. Sean loves his new Bromance and Tori and Laura are glad to have some respite from sports talk.
On our second day we changed spots having managed to secure a couple of bungalows which saved us another night of four-in-the-bed, which was actually more entertaining than you might expect and we were all in fits of laughter until the small hours having regressed into childhood pretending we were at a sleepover and we educated Tori and Tyler about British TV classics like Magic Granddad, Funhouse, Coronation street amongst others.
We ate dinner and breakfast in the guesthouse and had some fantastic Thai food. We much more enjoy the food here in Malaysia though Sean did love the noodle soups there. Luckily they also serve them here so he can continue his search for the perfect noodle soup. I on the other hand am still on the search for the perfect Cadburys. India is by far losing that battle, Malaysia and Singapore were better but Singapore was imported from Australia. None have so far been anything like English chocolate though.
