Day's 65 - 70 17th -23rd (Pisco-Andahuayas-Olantaytambo-Puno-Tacna) Peru
Cuzco and Many Miles
After leaving Mark and Jackie, I would like to have ridden with a bit longer but my time is limited, I headed back down to the coast.
My first target is the unexplained Nasca lines, I was too cheap to do the flight so opted for the road side platform.
Started to climb my way back up into the Andes and Cusco. Reached a pass at about 4,500 meters and caught my first sight of Llamas. The weather was looking bleak ahead and by the time I reached it, it had started to snow. Lucky it melted on the road.
I decided to stay away from Cusco so I stayed in a town about fifty km's from Machu Picchu. I had full intensions of making it to MP but an upset stomach and close to $180 to see the site, I decided to have a rest day.
Next on the ruta was lago Titicaca, the highest navigatible lake in the world. In hindsight I should have just headed to the coast, the towns around Titicaca are Rubbish tips and not very appealing at all. I spent one night at Puno at a hight of 4000 meters. Again towns have no signs for directions so navigation is impossible.
I think I can tell how dangerous some of the roads are around here by the amount of graves by the side of the road.
Next destination is the border Town Tacna and then into Chile.
Cheers
Greg
