Days 51,52,53 - 2nd 3rd & 4th September - Valcon Arenal & Bunes Aires - Costa Rica
Volcanoes & flying foxes
The border crossing from Nicaragua to Costa Rica was the busiest I have hit so far. There were trucks lined up for 3 kilometers. Luckily we could blast past them. Exiting Nicaragua was a pain but nowhere near as much as entering Costa Rica. Immigration went fine but the customs building burnt down not long back so they were working out of a bus. We must have stood there for an hour in the high humidity before we were given the all clear.
First night was in La Fortuna near Volcan Arenal, unfortunately it was under cloud the 2 days we were there. Booked in for a ride along the forest canopy via flying fox There were 10 cables in total and they ran from 400 meters to 1000 meters long, what a great ride. Also went to an inditonas hut that filled us in on some of the local history.
Second night was spent close to the Panama border in a small town called bunes Aires. Arrived in the dark after getting lost in San Jose for two hours, and it was raining just to make things interesting. Walked up the road to a little Pizza restaurant called
Giovanni's. It was run by an American from New York. He was wondering what the hell we were doing in BA as it never has tourists. After a fine pizza and a quick view of Giovanni's Honda Goldwing we called it a night.
Panama next day and last of Central America.
Cheers
