Days 85-104 8th-27th Ushuaia - Buenos Aires
The Journey Continues North
I wish it was the end of the road in Ushuaia, unfortunately I still had another 3000km's to reach Buenos Aires where the bike and myself will be flown back to Australia.
The trip north had taken just over six days to cover and I was happy to have reached Buenos Aires. The reason for the rapid approach to BA was that the clutch had started to slip way back in Peru. Not sure why it has been, but almost every 6000km's after that it started to slip again. The last time it started to slip was 2000km's from BA and there was no adjustment left so if it starts to slip again I would have gone nowhere.
The wind in Southern Argentina did not relent and every time a truck passed in the other direction it was like an invisible hammer hitting me. The scenery was not as good as Patagonia and the roads were long and straight. The towns were a bit on the boring side as they were only there because of the oil industries.
I finally reached Buenos Aires and the target was Dakar Motos in a little suburb called Florida. Lucky I did some homework on the directions as BA is an extremely large city and I found them quicker than I thought. Dakar Motos is a motorcycle workshop/hostel set up for motorcycle travelers. It's a little rough but the hospitality and meeting fellow travelers from around the world made it the perfect place to wind down before the trip home. I spent just over 2 weeks there and the rest was great after spending three and a half months on the road, although a few whiskey bottles did go down in the meantime, btw it was real whiskey!
Must have made five trips into town as it was only 20 minutes by train. On one Sunday I went to a street market a that must have covered 10 city blocks in one street. There were street performers everywhere, had a great day.
I have to say that the people in Argentina have been fantastic and very helpful. Even when I was looking lost in a small town somebody always pulls over and either directs me to where I want to go or for you follow them to some free accommodation which
happened in Azul.
Last task before the trip home was orgasing the motorcycle shipping. This turned out to be much easier than I thought as Sandra from Dakar Motos made easy work of the
shipping.
Last task is the long flight home, not looking forward to it, but I am looking forward to getting back to OZ.
See you all soon...
Cheers
Greg
