I have devoured pinapple curry! The food has been amazing in Kerala but I think we saved the best till last! For the last two nights we've been staying in Shravan Greens a small resort in the middle of the backwaters near Kochi with the most amazing cook. We were literally stuffed by the lovely friendly cook Chichi (translated as elder sister) and our wonderful host Indu. After every meal we cried I can't possibly fit in another meal today but of course we kept coming back for more ochra curry, bean curry, spinach curry, dahl, spinach dahl, keralan rice, poppadoms ... all eaten with our hands! After thew first course we were given HUGE plates of fresh pinapple oe watermelon to wash it all down with and even between meals we were ushered into the kitchen to have bananas fried in ghee. We even got to help make our first breakfast and learnt that although i might be a perfect chipatti student Darren is the kinbg of making dosas. Indu green omlet might even beat my dad's as the best omlette ever! In between eating I read, read, read and broke up my reading with a sleep and a turn round the lake in a paddle boat whilst playig fruit charades with Darren. It's going to be hard to stop our adventrues in two days when is been ralxing as this in India. Before our second backwaters retreat we stayed for 4 nights up in the North of Kerala in kannur by some of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen (including Oz). There were so few people there and we stayed in a lovely homestay metres from one o9f the beaches surrounded by palm trees and hammocks. It's our last night in Kerala so we are off to watch Khatakali dancing in 1/2 and hour-I think it's going to be a real spectacle as I've seen photos of green faces with huge costumes. Kerala has cerainly been a culinary delight-I'm not sure my palate will ever be the same again.
