I've seen wild elephants!! :-) We are now in India (after over 20 hours of travelling) and on arriving in Kerala we hot footed it up to the wildlife sanctuary in Wayanad where visitors are almost guaranteed to see wild elephants. On our first jeep safari at 7am we saw a family of elepahnts-ladies with one baby munching away and enjoying their breakfast and later on we saw four male elphants! We didn't see anymore on ouir second safari but did see deer, wild peacocks, bison, monkeys and a tiger paw print! We stayed in a tree house just by the gate of the park and were looked after by lovley Mr Veenu who was a great host and cooked the most amazing food. In fact we have been properly spoilt for food here in Kerala. The curries and side dishes are amazing-lots of fresh coconut and subtle spice flavours. We have even had a cooking class in Cochi from Mrs Leelu Roy! Now we are staying in a heritage home in the backwaters near Allepey. A lovey family run the homestay and they are stuffing us with wonderful food too. We are off on a canoe trip of the canals and rivers that criss cross this are tonight but I think that we might sink the caneo at this rate! We've just had a lunch of lake fish steamed in spices in a banana leaf parcel, pumpkin and mung beans, coconut anc cucumber dahl and potato and coconut salad with rice and poppadoms and fresh pinapple to finish! Tommorrow we are off to stay in a cardammon plantation in Munnar up in the hills. Maybe a bit cooler up there!
