Hi Guys and Dolls,
We have been to a few countries since our last update in Cairns. We had a good flight to Singapore with a stop off in Darwin for an hour.
We checked into our home for a coupe of nights, hotel 81 star which was slap bang in the middle of the red light district and was s*** scary at night, so the first night we decided to stay in and watch Hancock! We woke up early the next day and decided to head to Orchard Road which is a real long road with top end shopping on either side of the street, I think we saw about 8 Prada shops within 1km! Silly shopping if you have bags of cash! We had breakfast at a Singapore Café and tried the local cuisine, a Kopi (strong coffee with condensed milk) and Kaya Toast (thick sliced toast with coconut jam), was very tasty! We had a mooch around the shops but didn’t buy anything. Our next stop was to Clarke Quay, a river with loads of bars and restaurants on either side. We grabbed some num num to feed our tum tums before heading of to an electrical shopping mall. We were in search for a hard drive to store all our photos as our memory is starting to run out and it is good to have a back up aswell, bagged a good deal at £50 with a cover. We retired to bed fairly early because we had to be up at the crack of dawn to catch our train to Kuala Lumpur the next day!
A 6am wake up call, and we were on our way to the train station to start out 7 hour train ride up to KL. A very boring journey, do not want to bore you with to much of the info! But short and sweet, Lois read a book for 7 hours while I starred into space! Fun. Arrived fairly late, so had a look around some Malls before grabbing some fried rice for dinner.
We woke up early doors again because we were heading off to the PETRONAS Twin Towers, you have to get there early and wait for a couple of hours to get 1 of the 1400 tickets they give out each day to go up to the sky bridge. To be honest it wasn’t worth the wait, I would have preferred the extra time in bed, but at least we can say we have done it. We then got on a hop on hop off bus, which was a great way of seeing the city for really cheap. The next stop was the KL Tower which is a lot higher and gives you a birds eye view of the city and the PETRONAS towers, this was good. The towers are a lot better to look at, than going in! They also had an animal farm here, were I got to hold another snake for only a £1! Lunch time, we hunted down a Yo Sushi at a real plush shopping mall and had a really nice meal! We then headed to Petaling Street, which is KL’s equivalent of Bangkok’s Koh San Road, here we picked up some quality purchases. I got 2 footy shirts for a tenner and Lois bought some Ray Bans for £6. We then headed back to the hotel to get changed for dinner, we decided to treat ourselves and go to Hard Rock Café for some food and a couple of cocktails! Awesome food as usual!! Friday we had a lie in and was suppose to head over to the Batu Caves but decided to give it a miss and a few people said it wasn’t worth the journey. Instead we went for a Tepinyaki lunch and some more shopping at Petaling Road! On the hunt for some more barry bargains, we bagged a few!
Today we woke up at 5am to catch a taxi to the airport for our flight to Tawau. Wasn’t the smoothest of mornings. Our driver was waiting for us in reception and loaded our bags into the cab and away we go, the airport is about an hour away from the city centre so it was a real boring journey. He drops us off, great charged us a fortune but I didn’t really care as long as we were in time for our flight. Had a wander around the entrance hall and couldn’t find Malaysian Airlines anywhere, asked someone and they told us that the driver had dropped us off at the wrong Airport, even though I booked him to drop us off at the International Airport!! We had to grab another taxi and headed over to the International Airport, 15 minutes later and we arrive at the right place with just enough time to check in and board the Plane! Talk about hassle you can do without at 6.30 in the morning! Arrived in Tawau fine, Lois and I got pulled aside into a special room at the airport because our immigration forms hadn’t been processed from our train journey from Singapore! We had to wait 10 minutes before being seen to, and thankfully our forms sorted out!
We have just checked into our accommodation with our dive school, Scuba Junkies. Our accommodation is pretty bad but only £12 a night. We start our advanced diving course tomorrow, we have to do a deep dive to 30 metres and a navigation course. And have chosen our three specialty dives to be Fish Identification, Under water photography and Peak performance buoyancy (enhance your manoeuvring skills). Both very excited…
The last week has flown by and time is starting to run out! We will let you all know how we get on with our diving. Miss you all X
