Hello All,
Landed in Penang safe and sound and headed to our hotel which was located in the heart of Georgetown the colonial and historic area of Penang. On our first day we hired a ricksaw, which is a taxi bike with your own tour guide for an hour. Our tour was of Little India… We started off by going down Campbell Street which used to be the shopping hub of the area, then to our first stop an Islamic Mosque, Lois had to wear a gown and got told off for showing her knees!! We had a guided tour and got told some info about where they pray, what times of day and that they all have a wash in a pool before prayer time. Then we got taken into a room and they tried telling us why the Karun is right and tried palming some leaflets off to us. We quickly left! Then we went through the streets of Little India, all very colourful with fabric stores and loud with Bombay music cracking out, little curry stands, video stores, Indian Temple and an Indian School. Our next stop was Pinang Peranakan Mansion which is a state home of a Malay and Chinese couple, which was very grand! Then time was up and we got dropped off. We then had a stroll around the markets and shopping malls with no purchases made. We tried a local chicken and potato curry before retiring to bed.
The next day we headed to Batu Ferringhi which is a nice beach about 25 minute drive away from Georgetown. We chilled out on the beach for the day before heading to Hard Rock Café for some well earned grub. It is our mission to try and eat at most Hard Rocks in SE Asia, we are doing pretty well!!! Food as usual was amazing! The we headed to a bar for some cocktails, while we waited for the night market to start. I found some Prada sunglasses for £2, too good an offer to turn down!
Early morning rise today as we needed to catch the ferry to Langkawi, a 2 ½ hour journey that went quickly as we were both excited to get on a beach and sunbathe for the first time in a month. We checked into our hotel which was nice and then set ourselves up on our sunbeds were we didn't move for 4 days, well we only moved to get some food or alcohol!! An easy few days, topped off with a visit to the fish spa!!(too remove all dead skin, yuck!)
Today we caught a flight to Kuala Lumpur, we are here for one night and head to Krabi in the morning. Yippee!!
