Se were supposed to be heading up the west coast on the 23rd but the girls car who we borrowed and then were meant to be getting a lift up the west coast with kinda broke down before we left. It was quite juggery and seemed a bit rough but we thought that we would go for it anyway and we would see where we got to!! We eventually got to Cervantes (the pinnacles) just as the sun had disappeared so we found some accommodation and decided to get up for sunrise instead. So we got up the next day at 6am headed off to the pinacles where on the way we saw our first alive kangaroo (the others we had seen had been dead on the side of the road) this was after 10 days of being in oz so we thought that it was about time we saw one!! We got to the pinnacles in time for sunrise and it was pretty cool to see it.
We then headed north we got to about 25km out of denham when nath was driving and the engine just cut out like it had a couple of times before we tried starting it up but it was just not working. It didn’t take long before a nice couple in van picked us up and drove us the 20km to the nearest village Denham. The next day we contacted the couple of mechanics in the area but unfortuantly they said that they couldnt see the car probably for about a week. Lisa couldn’t wait that long as she needed to get back for work in 5 days. So we decided to get a flight up to exmouth instead. We went to monkey mia which is 20km north of denham for a day trip we got there early in the morning for dolphin visits, they do 3 feeding a day for them when they come in randomly from the sea and I got to feed one of them which was really cool. We also then managed to sell her car to one of the mechanics just for a little bit of money so everyone was happy with how it turned out.
Instead in exmouth we went snorkling the first time the girl took us to this ship reck and said it was pretty good around there so we deicded to go for it. So we were getting close to the reck which was just over 100 meters out and suddenly the rip had caught hold of us and dragged us straight past the reck. At this stage we decided to swim back in as the rip was really strong. This became more of a struggle than we had first realised, as we were trying to swim back in it felt like we wernt really going anywhere. At one stage we were really struggling and thought that we might not make it but thankfully after about an hour of swimming the shore seemed closer and we had got out of the worst bit of the swell, and we made it back to shore. It all seemed rather funny afterwards.
The next day we decided to go for the safer option of snorkling the reef which was awesome, and it is soo close to the shore. Literally you swim for 10 seconds and you hit the reef it was amazing, there wasnt a lot of colour in the reef but the shapes etc were amazing and the fish were quality. So many different coloured fish and they just swim around you etc. Also we saw a massive turtle asleep in a turtle hole under the coral which was amazing. There is also one bit of coral that you can touch which was pretty amazing, because all of the other bits break off and is really sharp!! Also in exmouth we decided to do fishing, where nath caught 3 bream and we cooked them up and ate them for diner.
Next stop was coral bay first day we got there the flies were unbelievable they had been bad around the country but in coral bay they were so much worse you couldnt walk anywhere without having a swarm around ur head and there was grasshoppers everywhere u looked. Next day we went out with the manta rays they are amazing creatures we swam behind, ontop (without touching 2m above) and beside for about 45 mintues it was so amazing. They are such wierd looking creatures we werent allowed to swim infront of it because if they see u and get scared they can swim up to 60km/h. They said the one we saw was about 4m wide which is dame big. We got into the water and we see could 2 manta rays doing these tumbles which is when they feed then forward and backward type sumersalts in the water which was amazing becasuse we got to see the front of them and everything. We then turned round and there were some more doing it. We managed to count 7 or 8 around us a one time they were infront and below us. It was really wierd because they would be below you and then start heading up towards you with there massive mouths open and just before they got to you they would flip back round and head back down. All the guides got into the water as they said this was a once in a lifetime thing, overall they counted about 100 manta rays!! After this we chilled out in coral bay for a bit and snorkled and saw some baby reef sharks.
Then it was time to head south we had an 18hour bus journey down to perth where we spent 2 nights before heading to alice spring to see Uluru.
