Laura's Aussie Adventure!
Hey dudes! Well, today is my last day in Bali and after a long trip home I will be back in Bonny Scotland on Thursday morning!
To be honest we haven't really been up to much since I last wrote. Our 3 days in Sanur were filled by shopping and, for me, lying on the beach (getting soo burnt that I look like I am constantly wearing white pants, but lets not go there! :0( !) Sanur was much busier than where we had previously been in Bali but the majority of the holiday-makers are of the older variety!! The shops were okay but once you've seen a few you've seen them all. The hotel was nice, although more expensive than we had thought (8 pounds per night and not in total!) but still cheaper than back home! The weather was also much better than it had been during our week at Lumbung as the clouds had finally lifted. The only thing that puts me off Bali is that you can't walk a couple of metres without someone pestering you - by trying to get you into their shop, sell you something, offer you transport or braid your hair! It gets pretty annoying and tiresome and this, and the fact that she has no money left, has made Christine barely leave the hotel in days!
Our hotel in Kuta is nice also. Christine and I are sharing a room and Michelle has one to herself. Again we have mainly shopped but have also managed to take in a few sights. About 10 minutes along Legian Street, which is the main street, is the location of the Bali bombing. There is now a memorial standing there so I took a trip along there to see that. It is nice but could easily be missed if you don't know about it. The only other reminder of the bombings that I have seen, is that the security at the hotels along the beach check in and under each of the cars that enter for bombs etc.
Last night Michelle and I hired a driver to take us to Ulu Watu, which is a temple that stands on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. The views were amazing - exactly like what we had seen on postcards - and the waves below were huge! The biggest attraction at the temple though had to be the evil, thieving monkeys!!! As soon as we got there our driver warned us to be careful of the monkeys and he was right! We saw one monkey steal a lady's prescription glasses, another snatch a girl's earring from her ear and eat it and another take a guy's headband from him and then throw it over the cliff! There were loads of them and some were up to other sorts of monkey business, if you know what I mean - yuck!!! ;0)
Whilst we were at the temple we also got to watch a Balinese dance called the Kecak Dance. I thought this was amazing - there were no musical instruments, just a group of 60 Balinese men making the music and setting the atmosphere with their voices (well impressive)! The dancers then told the story of Rama and Sita (the Balinese Romeo and Juliet) and how Sita was snatched from Rama in the woods. We got to watch the dance as the sun set behind, it was lovely!
Today I took a walk along the beach in the other direction but this time I had an aim in mind! I found what I was looking for and so, girlies and boys, in a few hours time I will be doing a bungy jump!! Yeah, I can't wait! I don't know why but I have always wanted to do one but the older I get, the more scared I get! When I saw it this morning I thought it looked not too high so I booked! It is only (I say only, hee, hee) 45m high, but that makes it the highest platform in Bali! It is all legit and is run by an international bungy company. I will be jumping above the swimming pool in the Double 6 Club (although I don't want to do the water touchdown) but from the platform above we will have views over the beach and will get to see the sunset! Oh, how exciting!!! :0)
Well, I will try and post something later or tomorrow to let you all know that I survived - as I will of course, but I know how some people can worry! But if I don't manage to get to the internet then please parents still come and get me from the airport on Thursday as I will be there!
That's all for now folks so til later ...
xx
