Laura's Aussie Adventure!
Today we left the peaceful sanctuary of Lumbung Damuh and Karangasem to come to Sanur. According to the locals Sanur is busier than Karangasem, but nowhere near as busy as Kuta, which is our next stop! I woke up early today and had a massage and body scrub before leaving. It was amazing - and again, less than a tenner! I can no longer imagine life without exotic fruit for breakfast and endless massages!! :0)
Our new accomodation is very Balinese style, with the staff in traditional dress and suited decor. We are still surrounded by lots of greenery but I don't think we have lots of fruit growing on our doorstep this time! Here we have a pool but are not far from the beach either. I am looking forward to getting to the beach because although Lumbung was right on the beach it was black stones and sand and very eroded. I am not really sure what we have planned for our three days here. Tanya (the owner of Lumbung) gave us some tips for good days out in Bali but I think most of them are easier to do from Kuta so we may just relax here ... and no doubt do more shopping, as we did today!
I think we have now mastered the art of haggling, or bargaining as they prefer to call it! It is now unusual to have to pay anything more than half of the original asking price! No wonder they don't put price tags on anything here!
We paid our bill for Lumbung this morning and for the 7 nights acomodation it came to over 2 million Rupiah (not including the 126,000 Rupiah mini-bar bill that Mico and Christine managed to rack up!). This sounds a lot but it was actually a bargain, working out at just over 40 pounds each! Try getting a decent room in Glasgow for a night at that price never mind a week! That will be our most expensive accommodation in Bali. Out new pad, Swastika Bungalows, amounts to a total of 8 pounds per person for all 3 nights!! If anyone ever wants to move here you could actually afford to live in hotels and forget about the mortgage!
I hope you are still awake having read my two installments on our first week of Bali. At least I should be able to update regularly now, although I doubt if I will be able to add any photos!
Miss you all ... but will see you soon! xxxxxxx
