A world of many!
After friday my eyes continued to become wide open, a trip to dubai today! Its been a trip like no other the infrastructure imediatly catches your eyes. The tall buildings that dominate the sky, constantly looking up, there design like no other, the glass work that finishes the buidings is what really catches my eye. Buildings with twists, ones leaning over slightly its just incredable. The heat hear is not what ive expeienced before i experienced 30 and above in south africa however this is proving to be even hotter! Clear to see everything has been built on a dessert, very dry and as soon as i get out the car you feel this sauna effect imediatly, every buiding greats you with a cold breeze at its entrance as the air conditioning meets the hot air a slight relief as you walk indoors.
Today i was driven around the city, lunch in the city, all the franchizes you can imagen from around the world, jonney rockets today an old style american dinner is where we had lunch. You get everything hear in dubai not to mentioned uk branded foods...kingsmill and hovess are back! From lucnh to the famous palm jumeirah;this being what most people first think of when they think of dubai! Driving on it you clearly sea the types of houses and people that live there, driving up the trunk of the palm and under the tunnel to the top of the trunk and around;views of burj khalifa (the newly claimed worlds tallest building) and the burj al arab known as the rab sail another iconic building of dubai! A photo with these two buildings in the background quickly as my feet felt like they were about to be fried....walking in barefeet is slightly harder hear than new zealand! There is continual contruction sights on the palm as new hotels and buildings are poping up all over the place. driving passed the famous atlantis hotel and water park...ive discovered dubai is a place were they like to put out all the stops! You are restricted to going onto the arms of the palm unless you own or have property and so its hard to tell your on a palm like structure.
From there to a hotel complex with a traditional mall desginsed attached to it, the old style of architecture has been built to create this traditional feel, the details that they put into these places and how clean everything is blew me away!
Up next the incredable palm to the worlds largest mall, the dubai mall! Yet again i felt like my eyes were going to pop out, a mall with an aqautic zoo, ice rink and ofocurse all the shops you can imagen..including all those fashion type ones that my friends would go crazy for im sure :P! i was taken back by the british shops like next witch were in the mall. You could get lost in this place and spend all day in there and still not see it all there are little mall taxis degsined to take you to where you wont to save you alot of time. The parking.. its free; in the uk to park somewhere like this would cost you an arm and a leg but hear they are only starting to introduce parking that you pay for. At the bottom of the mall you step out and your at the foot of the burj khalifa, like in las vegas the large water show;hear from 6pm every 20 minutes they have an incredable water show with music in the background. Another ideal photo spot, as it gets darker the buildings soon light up and the the water looks incredabley imressive as the sky gets darker.
Driving out of dubai at night the buildings all lit up just as impressive as seeing them in daylight, the small details such as the pail trees that have lights attaches to them, phone masts disgized as palm trees, airconditioned bus shelters! The money that has been invested and continues to be invested in this city! The numbers of expensive cars that line the streets and the average size of a house there idea of council houses are what we would probably describe as a mansion.
Its another adventure that is proving to show me another world that exists!
