From the beautiful south across the sea to the north theres so much to learn about!
North island trip has now begun. Leaving christchurch at the early morning of 7am on tuesday i experienced my first intercity experience the main bus system in new zealand. A 5 hour trip to picton along the east coast, some beautiful coastal scenery once again on a blue sky'd day. Strait of the bus at picton ferry terminal and checked in onto the ferry at 12.30. The 3 hour ferry journey one of the calmest ferries i've been on, and you not always guaranteed a pleasant crossing like that. Arriving in wellington, from small towns to the capital. Its amazing how even though i was sitting all day i was exhausted from the travelling.
Wellington a very busy place, wednesday morning, an early start to get the train into the city around 7am, it meant seeing a beautiful sunrise along the waterfront as i walked along the edge of the city. Seeing the streets gradual fill with people, the roads gradually begin to fill up, noises of the city increasing as the place comes to life. Not being a city person i did find the things for me, walking along oceans bay at the waterfront for a while finding the walking tracks up to mount victoria and the southern walkway. I was smiling, by twenty to 10 i was up at the top of the very small mountain, a pleasant bush walk to the top, 360 views of the city seeing the plains taking of at the airport and the day becoming a busy and busy on this wednesday morning. Mand with my maps i tried to complete the southern walk way, although on my own you just have to make the most of where you are i had researched some of the things i wonted to see and went ahead and allowed for flexibilities in my day. Getting slightly lost along one of the tracks it became a bit of a maize, i just retraced my steps and headed back into the city from a different direction. After spending the morning walking i headed to the famous te-papa, an incredible museum filled with endless information. You really can loose yourself in there, how the time disappeared i spent 2 1/2 hours and never got passed level 2. From fossil exhibitions, mountains to sea, the colossal squid exhibition, x-ray room with skeletons of sea life, to the awesome forces section highlighting the power of water and volcanic processes, earth quakes including a ouse that has been set up so you have the sensation of an actual earth quake. There is an extensive amount of information on how new zealand itself has been shaped and the physical forces that have shaped its landscapes. There just was not enough time to see it all.
Hence my return to the city today, i spent another day walking around town spending 3 hours in te-papa again and still not seeing everything. This time i tried to go through each section reading everything..... hence not seeing it all. Discovering a room which the floor has a visual map of new zealand on the tiles, as you step on the tiles the map sections light up and photos on the walls appear as you stand in different places on the map. It is incredible how our modern world has transformed museums, its there perfect trip for school children of which i saw numerous children with smiles on there faces as they looked around. There was such a vast amount of information its hard remembering it all but i certainly learnt a lot more and it triggered a lot of information i had forgotten about and i realised just how little i know and how much there is to learn about every single day.
