So last night was an experience. And a challenge. As I am writing this I know it's not going to sound like a big deal but imagine sleeping inside a barn, with your sleeping bag zipped up, right over your head; you're sweating (it's bloody roasting), all you can hear are Mosquitos and crickets flying around and landing on you; due to all this you cannot sleep and then someone starts screaming and shouting in another language.... So you don't know if they are just having some kind of nightmare or something has landed on them, since some arse left the barn door open - all sorts could have been inside!
That's not even the worst part! I wake up to mosquito bites everywhere including the palm of my hands, over the side of my face and forehead and I notice I can't open one of my eyes properly.... I've only been bitten on my eye. The same thing happened to a girl from the other group and she made me feel a bit better (right at this point, I was going to cancel the Red Centre trip haha so over dramatic). She explained that it's not like that down at Uluru and that it's an amazing experience. Time will tell.....
We stopped at Tennant Creek Telegraph Station and had a look round the old buildings (Tennant Creek is the size of the UK!!!!) before heading south again on the Stuart Highway.
After travelling just over 100km, we arrive at the Devils Marbles. These are gigantic boulders that are the rounded remains of a layer of granite that has eroded away. This is believed to be a sacred site and has great cultural importance; the rocks are believed to be the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent. Don't know about any of that but it's great fun jumping in about them to get photos! It's so weird how some of they can balance and some of them are cracked completely in half?!
I will say everywhere we have went on this trip, we have been completely swarmed with flies. It's HORRIBLE. We have had to buy face nets - that coupled it's my swollen eye and lumpy face, I am a total babe right now, haha.
We finally - FINALLY - arrive in Alice Springs! I am staying at a hostel called Annie's and it's their tour I am doing through the red centre.... Dinner and early bed as tomorrow is the start of another 3 day adventure......
