After a hard few months of work, we decided to fly to Queenstown for a week of skiiing and see what all the hype was about! John arrived in a day before me so I flew down on the Saturday morning and now I know what people are talking about when they say the flight into Queenstown is AMAZING!! The view out the window of the plane is absolutely gorgeous as you can see from the photos and I couldnt wait to actually land and get to see more.
We booked into The Black Sheep, a lovely hostel recommended by friends. It was in a perfect location, just a five minute walk from town and the facilities were perfect and they even had a lovely log fire in the evenings to relax in front of after a long day on the slopes. We decided to go skiing for 5 days and rented all our gear the day we arrived and had everything sorted to hit the slopes the next day. We spent the day walking around beautiful Queenstown.
The skiing itself was amazing, the conditions were great and we were kept going all day. We spent 2 days skiing in Coronet Peak and 3 days on The Remarkables. We got one lesson our second day and that sorted us out for the week. We went about ourselves and skiied as much as we could. It was all so easy to walk down to our buses in the morning to get to the slopes and have one waiting at the end of the day to bring us to the nearest bar doing Happy Hour that evening. I think Red Rock was our favourite with the outside fire pits and a pitcher of beer to perfectly end the day!
The restaurants in Queenstown were so nice and anywhere with BYO was even better. Already planning to go back to Lonestar again for the unreal steaks and desserts. And of course we made a trip to the infamous Ferg Burger...a must when your in Queenstown apparently. One evening we went to the Onsen Hotpools, these were amazing. You had your own hot pool that you could open the roof and front wall and look at the beautiful snow covered mountains by night. It was such a cool thing to do and would definitely recommend it after a long week of skiing. A perfect way to relax the bones and ease the muscles and bruises.
All in all it was a fantastic week, full of fun and meeting up with friends from home and enjoying everything Queenstown had to offer. Cant wait to get back there and do the same thing all over again.
Queenstown Done!
