It was great to have our first visitors to our house. Claire and Jonathon arrived and it was a jam packed few days full of wine and oyster shots!!
First port of call was to show them the amazing Wintergardens in the grounds of the Auckland Museum. It was the perfect time of year as the gardens were in full bloom and the weather was still quite warm for the time of year.
Another day we went out to Waiheke Island. Myself and John had never been there before so it was great that we were able to go with the others and see it for the first time too! The ferry over was cool and being able to see the entire city on such a beautiful day was class. Basically when you get off on the island there are all these hop on hop off buses that you buy a ticket for and then travel around the island visiting all the different vineyards.
First vineyard we visited was an organic one called Kennedy Point. It was so pretty sitting amongst the olives trees and watching them pick the olives around you. We definitely started the day off nicely...the guys even had oyster shots which were an oyster in the bottom of a shot glass then topped up with sparkling rose. Myself and Claire left them at it but they swore they were nice!
Next stop was Mudbrick Vineyard where we enjoyed sampling 10 of their best wines. We also sampled their cheese board and just like the presentation,it was absolutely gorgeous. It was a beautiful day and just sitting in the vineyard and taking in the breathtaking views was unforgettable and something we will definitely be doing again. Soon enough it was time to go and head back to Auckland, it really felt like we were in a different country just being out of the city for a few hours.
The time Jonathon and Claire were with us was amazing and it was cool being able to show them around the place and actually knowing the best areas for them to visit and see while they were here.
Cant wait for round two!!
