After feeling not at all well on the boat, once in Bagan I slowly started to feel better after a couple of meals of plain rice and sprite - fortunately in plentiful supply.
And I'm glad I did as Bagan is staggering. Just this vast plain of thousands of pagodas all thousands of years old. I only wish I had forked out the cash and book ahead to do the balloon ride. But two highlights were a horse and cart ride through the pagodas during the late afternoon and then a climbing a small way up a pagoda to enjoy the sunset over the plain. I couldn't make it up to the top due to the height and particularly the steep and deep stairs going up but it was pretty spectacular even from my vantage point.
We also visited another market, once again beautiful produce, photogenic sellers and of course the obligatory bits for tourists - I did buy a longhi what both the men and women all wear.
Our hotel was also lovely with a swimming pool. But a bit of a way out of town, however four of us managed to escape to have dinner out. This involved a 20 min walk back but we found our way and enjoyed the brilliant stars on our walk back. Fortunately even here it cools down at night. Our guide was clearly nervous about four girls finding their way back so ensured a horse and cart was on hand if we wanted it!
We said goodbye to 12 of the group on our last night in Bagan as 6 of us only are flying off to do the beach extension.
