This is second last day in Peru and the last day of our G Adventure tour. It was another early morning (4:30 am) so we could make the hour drive from Puno to Juliaca to the airport to catch our plane back to Lima The early mornings are really beginning to wear on me. Our travel agent provided us with an extra night in Lima so we could explore this city. So the rest of the day today and tomorrow will be at our leisure. We arrived in Lima at around 10:30 am and got settled in the hotel.
After a quick rest we set off to find a place overlooking to ocean to have lunch. We decided to have an easy day as we were quite tired. We walked along the waterfront for an hour or so, taking in all the scenery. It's a lovely walkway along the edge of the ocean, through parks with all sorts of activities. They have workout stations along the way where people can stop to do chin ups or leg raises etc. Eventually, we came across a mall with restaurants built into the side of the huge hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We watched the surfers and just generally enjoyed the views over lunch.
Then, it was back to the hotel to get ready for our last dinner with the group. Again, we had a great meal, laughed and enjoyed each others company reminiscing about our adventures and misadventures. We really had a great group of people who helped make the trip one to remember. The people you travel with can really make or break a trip and this group helped make it extra special. Back at the hotel, afterwards, we shared a bottle of bubbly that Edith brought while she gave us all our new Quechua names.
Vic's new name is "Ausangate". Which is a mountain of the Willkanuta mountain range in the Andes of Peru. With an elevation of 6,384 metres it is situated around 100 kilometres southeast of Cusco and has great significance in Inca mythology. She sees Vic as a "gentle man" who is very practical and prepared (with everything he or I may need in his daypack) and who is always trying to look after me.
My my new name is "Wina Ywana". This is a rare orchid found high in the mountains that blooms all the time despite the harsh weather. She remembers that when we came out of the jungle I had a bit of a meltdown (literally) about not having an air conditioned bus in the heat and dusty roads. I went up to her very upset and told her it was unacceptable. But soon after, I was having fun and looking forward to the next adventure. She felt vey close to me and sees me as a second mother to her. She appreciated my honesty and enjoyed my sense of humour. Finally, someone who sees and appreciates the real me!!! We, then, said our goodbyes. Some of us were leaving later that night, while others had plans for another day other two before heading home. I really hope we all stay in touch. Needless to say, it was a very emotional evening and I will never forget Edith's kind words to not only me but everyone in the group.
