This morning we had free time so I headed back into Hoi An central to try to track down the elusive candle holders I wanted. I'd seen a couple of shops last night that showed potential, but unfortunately they couldn't come up with the green ones I wanted. Although they didn't have the style I wanted on their shelves a couple of the shopkeepers knew the ones I was after so said "Wait a minute, I get them for you." Sadly they both could only get red ones and it took some convincing that I only wanted green, I would probably have settled for purple but that wasn't available either.
Anyway while I was waiting I found a nice scarf and a green dragonfly cushion. While the shopkeeper was off looking for the candle holders I wanted, her friend minded her store...and convinced me to have a look at her store once I'd finished in the lacquer store.
So I followed her to her mother's taylor-made shoe store where, although I hadn't planned on getting any shoes made, I ended up with two pairs, made to measure that I can pick up tomorrow...provided I can find the shop again. So while being measured up for my shoes this shopkeeper's friend wanted me to have a look at her store...did I have SUCKER written on my forehead...I guess so. So I ended up with a manicure and my eyebrows threaded. Then I was off to her daughter's shop to buy some souvenirs. Then off to her friend's shop to have a top taylor-made again which I could go back for a fitting tomorrow and she will deliver back to the hotel for me. Only me protests of "I have no more money." allowed me to escape.
After lunch of yesterday's leftovers we headed one hour out of town to visit My Son Sanctuary, a group of nine temples and out building built the Cham people; some over one thousand two hundred years old, through to seven hundred years old. Sadly many of them were destroyed during the war. Apparently is was only after protests from the French during the war that America stopped bombing these ancient temples. Again I'm sure Wikipedia can fill you in if you want to know more.
On our way home, we stopped at the taylors so the group could have a fitting of the clothes they had ordered; not wanting to sit around waiting again I asked to be taken back to the hotel. I headed up the street in search of a pork roll bun call Bah Me and found a street vendor selling them which was my dinner for the night...so far my stomach feels OK. I've been trying very hard not to say OK out loud here, as I've learnt is a brand of condom!!! The bun and a bottle of Coke was AUD1.75.
On the way back to the hotel I spotted a Fila style dress in my favourite colour which although the girl didn't have in my size, she would have tomorrow and would shorten to a top length...all for the grand price ofAUD7.50.
So back to the hotel to eat my dinner, then a dip in the pool and some more blogging.
