Hi everybody!
Well I've arrived safely, if a bit sleepy and grumpy and am starting to get settled in in KL. I landed at about half 7 yesterday morning and bravely decided not to go straight to bed for the rest of the day once I got to my guesthouse but went on a big explore instead... What started as a simple mission to buy a Malaysian sim card was quite an expedition in the midday heat but I finally found a lovely man to sell me one who was delighted to find out I was an English lawyer and engaged me in a half hour debate on the British legal system and his favourite judge (Lord Denning if anyone's interested - he had even named his business Dennings!)
So feeling very brave and organised with my new phone up and running I decided to set off for some sight-seeing and go up the KL tower. Apart from the 10 minute walk taking about half an hour due to my ridiculously bad sense of direction it was well worth a visit and the views from the top of the tower are amazing, photos to follow...
More sightseeing was meant to follow but I'm ashamed to say jet-lag caught up with me pretty quickly so the rest of the say was a bit of a blur! But today has been much better and I feel like I'm fully functioning again!
We were taken off to the centre where the project is run from this morning to have a look around and meet the team and get an idea of what we'll be up to. I've got a fairly easy weekend to get me started, just joining in with some workshops for teenagers and planning for next week when we're heading back into the centre of KL for a new project. It's based in a residential centre for young, disadvantaged women who want to learn new skills so we're there to help them practice their English and do any other activities they might enjoy so I need to put together my first dance classes which is a bit scary! Luckily the apartment I'm staying in has plenty of open space for me to practice my moves in should I need to - any suggestions very welcome!
So that's about it for my first couple of days really. The next week or so will be really busy planning and getting to grips with the new project but I've been promised a few days off afterwards to go off exploring the rest of Malaysia...
