Here I am in Thailand drinking the worst coffee in the world having to entertain myself for another hour before returning to Cambodia. Why you may ask did I have to leave - my visa. I actually do not understand why but to get my first extension I have to leave and return with my letter of approval from my employer - which I now have (mind you it could say anything as it is in Khmer and the only thing I can read is my name!)
Thailand, at least this border town, is disappointing - poor Bunthorn has never been out of Cambodia before and I have to bring him here. Also he has had to put up with abuse from the Cambodian border patrol as they thought he was fleecing me. You can actually look at this in two ways, Bunthorn does not deserve to be accused of that but most Cambodian borders have a bad reputation for just that, so in another way it is good to know that the border patrol was actually looking out for the poor foreign idiot.
I am now back with my visa extended, the whole process took less than 3 hours, basically because I chose to do it at a local crossing that doesn't deal with many tourists.
