Wombats, Waves, Wallabies and Wine all at Wilsons Prom
There is a place called Wilsons Prom in Victoria that is the southern most tip of Australia that Amy and Ben have visited and have told us about. Ben managed to find out that Ben's family had a camping spot that wasn't being used so we packed up the camping stuff in to the 4x4 and went down for the night.
We stocked up on snacks for the journey consisting of chewy snakes, DCs and crisps followed by 4 Toasted Twisters and 3 large fries and we were set for the journey.
We got to the Prom and the scenery was unbelieveable - it was like a scene from Lost - complete wilderness and not another person in sight. It was amazing. All of the trees were scorched from the fires which gave a really eerie but impressive scene.
We pitched the tents (well Ben did) in record time and we headed straight for a swim at Norman Bay. Realising I had forgotten the camera Ben and I ran back to the tents and got the camera. The sunset on the beach was like a postcard, such a beautiful big beach and the sun setting behind the rocks, it was well worth the run back.
After taking about 700 pictures, we ran in to the sea, much like a crap Baywatch scene but my god the sea was amazing. I was like a kid in a sweet shop with the waves crashing over our heads, I was whooping and cheering as we had to decide whether to go under or over the wave. It was such fun and so perfectly timed with the sunset.
On getting back to the campsite we met up with Ben's uncles, aunties and cousins, again all very welcoming to us Brits. We then proceeded to polish off an eskie full of booze (18 bottles of Pure Blonde and 2 bottles of vino). While we enjoyed the refreshments we were joined by a wombat, they are so cool and just like little furry pigs crossed with a bulldozer.
We left Ben's family to go to sleep and we went to look at the stars and eat all the of remaining snacks. Scary thing was that Ben and Liz managed to demolish the snacks on their own without Amy or I getting a look in. They were swiftly names Boost Buddies as one of the "snacks" was a pack of 16 mini Boosts!! Lucky for us all, our cue came to go to bed when the booze ran out!!
Liz and I had a tiny tent and Amy and Ben had mansion. However, despite our tent being fairly compact we did have 2 sleeping bags where as Amy and Ben had misplaced one of theirs so Ben had to use a wet towel as his cover for the night! Very amusing. I think he would have been better off making a sheet out of the Boost wrappers.
Waking up in the morning and knocking up a couple of dust bars, without a drink - yum, we headed for a walk to Squeaky Beach where the sand is so fine it squeaks under your feet. What a walk, so many amazing views it is best left to the photos to explain what I mean.
We stopped for lunch back at the campsite and no sooner had Ben sung "come to me jungle friends" was he landed on by 2 rosalas, one of which was on his head which was very funny for us.
A quick trip to Whisky Bay, another stunning beach, then we packed up and started the journey home.
We were so pleased that we managed to see Wilsons Prom as it was so picturesque and had some of the best views we had ever seen.
10/10!!
