A Little Bit of Luxury!
Being picked up in a Mercedes from the airport was a bit of a shock. We have become so used to getting public transport or being picked up by people in clapped out old bangers more akin with a vehicle from the Flintstones that the posh car and uniformed driver was very welcomed!
We slowly cruised the 5 minute journey (!) to the hotel and through the security gates to check in to our pool view room at the Leela Kempinski hotel. On first impressions it was a very posh hotel and with Lizzy and I strolling in with our massive backpacks and my filthy shorts we felt a little out of place. We checked in and went straight to the room to dump the bags and see what freebies might be in the room. To our delight (and I think this is all standard but the places we have been staying in in the last 7 months have barely had a functioning roof let alone tea and coffee!) there were biscuits, water, tea, coffee and fruit. As soon as we were in we had the kettle going, the biscuits eaten and were on the phone ordering room service.
The room was so comfortable and the hotel was so nice but there is something quite satisfying when you stay somewhere more challenging. Have said that we did explore the hotel and decided to chat to the conciege and book some cinema tickets for the next afternoon. Liz had been keen to see a bollywood film so we got the guy to suggest something good and sorted the tickets for us - a grand total of £2 for the both of us in premier seats!
The next day and we headed off to the cinema and stocked up on some snacks of a few samosas, a veggie burger and a large drink each. The film, completely in hindi and not one verse of a song so not quite the bollywood movie experience we hoped for but a good afternoon all the same. We picked up a large selection of indian sweets and headed back to the hotel for a well deserved night out, in the hotel.
This was also a chance for us to dress up so the clothes we had made in Hoi An were removed from the bags and de crumpled and we were ready to hit the bar in the hotel. One bottle of wine, a whole load of free bar snacks and a great chat reflecting on our amazing adventure and we were ready for bed.
It was a very strange feeling going to sleep knowing that the next day we would be flying back to the UK and the trip would be over. We have had such an amazing time and have so many memories of the trip it is a shame it is over but is something that neither of us will ever forget.
When we wake up we will be heading to the airport and making the most of the free wine on board to help cope with the shock of being back in reality!
Homebound!
