Well guys, were in LA now but fiji was awsome, a real tropical island in the south pacific ocean, we spent one night on the mainland then went to bounty island for 2 nights where they filmed celebrity love isalnd, pure paradise and our bure, room, was 10 m from the shore right on the beach, with our own hammock.
The next island was kuata, where we visited a real fijian village met the locals and even manda made some woven jewellery with them, they r really freindly people, we even went to church on sunday morning in the village with them which was a good experience. not much else to report really we just relaxed for 5 nights before the mayhem of the USA.
when we got to the aiport to check in, for our flight to america, we were asked for our visa numbers??? When we said we didnt have them the guy said we couldnt fly without them, we had to go online in the airport on the laptop and quickly request a number, apparantly its only been in force for a week..... nightmare, then when we landed in USA we found out it was the night of the Oscars, and our hostel was 500m from the kodak theatre, what an absolute nightmare. everywhere was cordoned off by swat teams, but more of that in the next blog............

Adinan I go every February because the whetaer where I come from is heinous at that time, whereas the whetaer in Barbados is near perfection. I think it averages around 28C-30C. They get a fair amount of rain, but showers don't last long and it's so warm that it's never been an inconvenience except for that year we rented the convertable and forgot to put up the roof!Barbados is one of the more prosperous Caribbean countries, so your options for transportation are numerous. I usually rent a small car, but I've heard the public transit is reliable and inexpensive. Taxis are also available, but make sure to negotiate the rates before you go they don't use meters like we do in North America.My doctor never advises me to get immunized before I go, although I would guess it's always advisable to have all your regular shots up to date. It's never a bad idea to get your Hepatitis shots and stuff before you travel.I've never felt unsafe in Barbados, although there are a lot of hustlers that will try to get you to buy drugs or crafts on the beaches or in the tourist areas. They can be a bit pushy, but if you politely decline, they won't harass you too much.I know you were asking about St. James, but my advice to people is always to stay in in the south part of the island (e.g. Christ Church parish). The hotels are numerous and just as good; it's less touristy even though there are still plenty of things to do (Oistins Friday Night Fish Fry for one! And the St. Lawrence Gap is there if you get the tourist urge); you'll find more authentic Bajan things in the area; and it's far cheaper than the west coast!Hope that helps
Joel Hi Grace,Barbadian here. Anytime of the year is good, there is always snushine about 30degrees C, we have an average of 365 days a year of snushine although it does rain sometimes, not often enough though. No immunation necessary but some mosquito repellant is recommended as far as your safety is concerned, Barbados is pretty safe but you should not be too conplacesent, take normal precautions, tourist do get robbed sometimes because the foreign currency is better than our local money:US$ 1=BDS$ 2). It is very easy to get around especially if you hire a vehical, which won't be very expensive. As far as hotels please visit tripadvisor.com and read the reviews, Sandy Lane Hotel is very expensive and you will get better service elsewhere. Come and have fun.
Mercedes My daughter and I just came back from Barbados (on vioctaan) and we took this tour. The cost of the tour was very cheap and the booking was very easy to do ( just have submit on-line via their website). It was very informative and educational. Their chocolates taste very rich and smooth . excellent chocolate. Apparently they do not use chemicals and additives like many other chocolate manufacture does. They only use all natural pure ingredients which is great. Too bad you can only get in Barbados for now. We'll just have to come back to Barbados when we get the craving for their chocolates.
Pala My husband and I went on this tour last December (2010) Kayak Jack was born in Barbados, him and his wife just moved back there from Canada. He had just strated this business up before we went for our holiday in Barbados. Jack was very respectful of the sea life and the turtles. He gave us a safety lesson before we actually went on the tour. It's a very one-on-one experience. We really enjoyed ourselves. We were able to interact with the turtles and other various sea life of Barbados waters. The water is really warm. I found this tour to be very enjoyable, not like a lot of the tours where there are too many people, I think this tour only has four double kayaks, and a couple of singles. Very eco friendly. My husband and I are planning on returning to Barbados in 2012, and will be looking forward to enjoying another tour with kayak jack.
