We had a pretty relaxed day today even though we had planned to go and see Rio´s Zoological Park and the Favela (slums) which we didnt think would take alot of time up. So we had a bit of a lay in, so we missed the Hostels breakfast that they put on for us and had some cereal which was in the cupboard that we had bought to snack on during the day. After that we had a shower, got ready and headed to the Zoo. Got outside dressed like summer time and it was falling down with rain, so we quickly ran to the bank as we had to get some money out. Luckily there was a bloke standing outside the bank selling umbrellas for cheap, so we purchased one each and now we was ready to fight the rain.
There was 2 trains we could get when jumping on the Metro and obviously we jumped on the wrong one and ended somewhere completed different, but wasnt too hard to come back and then try again. We got the San Christovao Station where the Zoo was and still it was hammering down, we didnt really know where it was so we walked up this street for about 15 minutes, when just by luck there was a map where everything was around this area. We had walked in the wrong direction so back tracked on ourselves again. Eventually got to the zoo. It was only R$6 to get in so we thought it wasnt going to be that great but at least we could say we had seen it. Got in there and it wasnt as bad as we imagined, wasnt great, but wasnt awful. They had different species of birds, had Grizzly Bears, Monkeys, Giraffes, Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Elephants, Horses, Hippos, Turtles, Penquins so quite a few different animals. Took a few snaps around the Zoo.
Just before the end these Brazilian girls approached us that was on a school trip, probably about 14/15 and they were smiling like they were excited about something (well they were meeting us so expected), they wanted a pic with us both, as we all posed they were proper putting there arms round us, grabbing our arms. Felt like peodo´s in the Zoo. To make it even more funnier, one of the girls that looked even younger than 14/15 came up to Matt and asked him for a kiss on the cheek, so Matt went in for the kiss haha, only joking! We then just had a little laugh while walking back to the Metro station to go back.
After getting back we went out to look for the Favela as we could get a free cable cart right above it, to see how the other half live. We walked for ages looking around but couldn´t seem to find it, as it was raining we jumped on the bus back. Quickly popped to the supermarket to get our din dins for the night, watched a few films to try keep awake as we had a flight at 06.00am to Iguasu where we was going to see the Iguasu Falls...
