Sugarloaf Moutain
So we got up about 10 knowing we had a busy day ahead of us visiting Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ The Redeemer. We had picked today as it says on the weather report that it was going to be hot and it was, very hot! We had our breakfast, showered and chilled for a bit before taking a nice 20 minute walk to Sugarloaf. When we arrived at the bottom of the mountain we had to pay £20 to go up, took a few snaps of what was to offer on the ground floor, then got to first floor where the carts would takes us up to the first of 2 mountains (half way). It was pretty nice up there as it had a cafe, few shops to buy stuff from and plus the views were out this world. You could see so far, it helped with the weather being so nice.
By this time we felt a little peckish again, there was a little shop that looked like it was selling fresh fruit and sweets in a cup, you pick what you wanted for about £2.80 to squeeze into this little cup. So after choosing what we wanted we thought this is quite cheap but the thing they never told us is that they wiegh it and in the end our both came to about £12 so got ripped off again!
After sitting down and eating our expensive fruit salad we decided to get the cart upto the next mountain which of course was Sugarloaf. Again the views were absoluting amazing as you can see from the pics. We chilled up there for a little while before heading back down to the bottom ready to go and see Christ The Redeemer...
Christ The Redeemer
So as were walking back to our Hostel to swap cameras because mine was running out of battery we took a couple of pics of the town near where we were living, a few of the beach aswell. After that we jumped on the 583 bus for about 30 mins all the way to the bottom of Christ The Redeemer. As we got off the bus there was a bunch of people literally jumping down your throat to get in there minibus (all legit) to take us to the top while stopping at 2 other different places on the way up for different views. So we paid £8 for the minibus and then another £7 to get in at the top which wasnt too bad. The views from each place was sensational, even got to stand on the Heli-pad. Matt didnt go anywhere near the edge and he isnt the greatest fan of hieghts. But it didnt hurt to try and chase him around and nudge him near the edge. All fun! Then the threats came out that he was going to hit me when we got down. How scared i was!
After the 2 stops on the way up it was finally time to go to the very top to meet the Christ The Redeemer himself. Grabbed a can of beer each, went up the stairs and what a great looking chap he is, amazing statue! It was quite hard to get the whole of him in as it was so tall (bit like Matt) and so little space, so we would literally have to lay on the floor to get a good pic. Once again the views from up here was even better, it was way above the clouds aswell, plus the sun was just going down so made it all that little bit more special. Matt felt a bit on edge up there so we didnt stay to long, just took a few snaps, had a pray each and then headed back to the bus for the trip back down.
It was quite a long day and by this time we were both a bit tired so we headed back to the Hostel to chill out for the night ready for our Zoo trip in the morning...
