After a really long bus journey again, which we both couldnt sleep on for some reason, we had literally no energy when we got to Mendoza, especially with our big backpacks on! And it didnt help that we had to walk for about half an hour to find our hostel because the one we were dropped off at had no room. We arrived at our hostel anyway and had to wait a couple of hours to check in because people were taking ages to check out and sort out the rooms etc, but they gave us some free breakfast (which is actually amazing! Well, we think so!) so we werent complaining...
We arrived on Friday, just in time for the weekend, and we decided to head to the big park for the day, which - according to the hostel´s map - is half the size of Mendoza! It has been really nice weather every day since we´ve been here too, so it was really nice to actually wear shorts and tshirts all day instead of big coats and trackie bottoms and still be freezing our asses off! Because of the weather, we have been to the park most days, just because theres also one right near to our hostel so its easy and has a really nice atmosphere - people play drums and theres fire dancers and markets and lots more!
Friday night we decided to go to a BBQ party that the hostel organised, along with two other hostels, so we met quite a few people and also bumped into a couple from Buenos Aires we knew and also a few lads from Rio which was nice. It was only 6 pounds, and we got so much meat it was unreal! We´ve actually eaten about 10 cows each in the past few days, as the BBQ put us in the mood for it, and we found a couple of all you can eat places which have BBQ meats as well as everything else, which were too good to avoid!!
The nightlifes also pretty good here too, and if you dont want to go out to a club theres lots of cool bars which have chairs out on the streets which are open late and really nice to go and chill out in, which is what we did after the BBQ party. On Saturday night, Alex and the guys from Rio ended up going to a club, as Lissie was a little ill (but is fine now, woo hoo!) so she decided to go to bed....but it was still 3am! Apparently the club was a bit strange though as one minute, it would be playing samba music and all of a sudden, YMCA would come on and then go to tango music....strange, but funny!
We had a really nice day on Monday, where we, and the guys from Rio, took a bus to Maipu and went to see some wine museums, chocolate shops, wineries and vineyards! We rented a bike from Mr Hugos (who is such a legend and gives you free wine at the end of your day!) and followed the map to a few places. The first place we went to was a wine museum, where we tasted some red wine (we actually have started to not mind red wine due to this day!) and had a little look around before heading on to a chocolate place. It was actual heaven! The lady shows you all these jams, liqours and chocolates, and you get to pick to have a shot glass of one liquor - we both chose chocolate and mint, which was to die for! - and were allowed a few slabs of chocolate...and it was only 2 pounds which was a bargain! Then we rode to a winery, where we got a little demonstration thing from a man about all the wines, and then you could pay to taste a few, which again was so cheap! As it was getting near to the closing times of the wineries, we decided to get a couple of bottles of wine and sit out on these little bean bag things outside in the vineyards which was really nice. Monday was one of the sunniest days here too, so it was really fun. We also decided not to go with the hostel, and go on our own as it was mucho more cheapo that way, oh yeah!
We checked out today, and had to get up at 10 and pack which was so sad....we were so so tired!! And we didnt even have a late night! Bad times. Because most of the shops have siesta from around 1ish to 6ish, we decided to head out for a bit of shop as we needed a couple of things, and also just being girls, we wanted to shop! Bought a few nice things, except it was a bit of a struggle fititng them back in the backpacks! Off to Cordoba later on tonight, so should be good to spend the weekend there, as its a university town so hopefully that means good nightlife and cheapo times!! :)
Thats about it from Mendoza anyway!
Missing everyone lots!
