Lisa's Big Adventure
Pisa and it's leaning tower
After leaving the French Riviera, we spent the day travelling with gorgeous views of the water out the bus windows before entering into Italy. We passed through the small town on Pisa to enable us to see the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Truthfully, this is the only thing worthwhile seeing in the town as it is filled with tacky tourist shops and men trying to sell fake designer bags, sunglasses, Rolexes and anything else they've got copies off. You could barely walk down the streets without them jumping out and trying to sell you something. Pisa also had more beggars than I've ever seen before in my life! My first thought was I hope the rest of Italy won't be like this!
As I headed towards the tower I wasn't really thinking about it, more about dodging the beggars and sellers and before I knew it, it was right there. And although I'd seen photos and was expecting it to be leaning, my immediate thought was, wow! It REALLY does lean! Stupid, I know but I didn't expect to be leaning THAT much. It really is pretty phenomenal the way it is still standing. Of course, I had to do the tacky tourist photo of me pretending to hold it upright. And that was fun... move left, no step back. Hmm... Anyway...
It was great to see such an icon, something as renowned as the Eiffel Tower or the Empire State Building. Other than a quick glimpse of the tower though, I certainly wouldn't be spending any time in Pisa.
