San Francisco The trip from Bass Lake to San Francisco was only a few hours so we were down at Fisherman's Wharf by midday. We headed directly to Pier 39 and found a restaurant to have lunch that gave views of the harbour. The first thing we did today was to go to Alcatraz. The ferry trip out takes about 15 minutes - I thought it would take longer! And then it was time to explore the prison with the really good audio guide. The prison was very interesting, particularly when you learn that no one has every escaped alive before. With only 1 day to spend in the city, we didn't wander around the island any further, just did the prison tour and then headed back to the mainland. ...
