Lisa and Simon`s Around the World Tour
Arrived in the town of Bonito on 14th August.
Stayed in this top place in the centre of this small town. Open eating / social area with hammocks slung all around. On arrival, I made the most of the facilities whilst Simon went off for a walk through the jungle which incorporates a network of waterfalls with splash pools suitable for swimming. He had a great time, quite pleased for having leapt off a 20 foot high platform into one of the pools.
We went as a group to do some snorkelling the following day. That really was amazing and unlike anything else I have ever experienced. We went out to this place on the edge of a forest, picked up a snorkel, mask and guide and walked through the forest for about an hour before arriving at a river. Jumped in and allowed the flow of the river to take us downstream. We were in the water for about 3 hours (easy when there is no salt) gliding effortlessly downstream through the untouched forest by a mix of slow and fast flowing water. The waters were crystal clear and the enormous number and variety of fish did not seem to mind being almost eyeball to eyeball with us.
As we were face down in the water for almost the entire time, we did not see much of the wildlife in the forest, but did stop a couple of times to observe. Got to see a Caimen (similar to a crocodile) 10 feet away on the bank. Petrified at first that it was going to take my leg off, I soon relaxed and starting watching it. Fantastic. Further downstream, we stopped to see a family of brown tailed monkeys in the trees next to the river. We watched the monkeys coming down a branch that bropped into the water to drink. I swam up until I was no more than a metre away from the drinking point and watched as a baby came to drink. Wow.
We havent got any photos of this part of the trip, but check out www.riodaprata.com.br if you are interested.
