Lisa and Simon`s Around the World Tour
Five minutes to spare, so a quick update.
We are still alive, have only been ripped off once (overcharged by 20 pence for a cup of coffee in the tourist hell that is La Boca) and have felt no less safe than we would have in Manchester.
BA is a bit short on blockbusting tourist attractions, but a whole load of smaller things to see and do. Have just about managed to cram it all into four days and still had enough time to chill out.
There is clear evidence all around that once upon a time, the city was incredibly wealthy, and a bit sad that everything you see has experienced better days. Even the elephant house in BA´s zoo is a palace, but like everything else, could do with a lick of paint. The lack of money, however, does not seem to dampen the spirits of the locals. We have been fortunate enough to have been here at a weekend when the streets come alive with street fairs and entertainment everywhere.
Street fairs of course mean plenty of street food. We even came upon a fair that was 'foods of South America'. Most countries seemed to offer variations on kebabs, so Simon was in heaven!
The room at our hostel is better than some we have stayed in back home and paid upto 75 quid a night for. On a back street, but very central. Sitiuated between a an adult cinema and a drum and bass club. Handy if you like both, but not so good if you want to get some rest. Our room shares a light well with the cinema, so loud groans from 8.30 am until about 11.30pm, whilst the club kicks in at 5am, and the whole building then shakes until 9am. Earplugs very useful!
The city has got to be the bargain of the century with amazing steaks that filled a plate for 3 quid each, including drinks.
Now off to Rio for a few days of sunshine and Samba before we pick up our tour.
