Lisa and Simon`s Around the World Tour
Have a few days in Foz de Iguassu, a Brazilian town close to the Iguassu Falls.
Before seeing the falls, we went to the Itaipu hydro electric dam, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, apparently. Enormous structure - the dam is about 7km long - and the fact that this single lump supplies almost all of Paraguay´s and a large proportion of Brazil´s electricity is pretty impressive. However, the blurb you are fed is absolute one sided b******s. Do we really look like stupid tourists? If you want to be impressed by a dam and the story behind it, go to Hoover.
Bird Park on the way to the falls. Much better than expected. See the photos.
The reason for visiting the area was of course Iguassu Falls. Brazilian side on day one. As expected - spectacular, breathtaking, incredible, etc. Day two we went over to the Argentine side. Expecting something similar to Brazil, we really were impressed. All feelings experienced on day one times 10!
Highlight is Devil´s Throat, which is the most exreme part of the falls. As with all parts of the falls, there are catwalks leading out into the water, where you can find yourself literally inches away from the action. Awesome!
Towards the end of our second day, we did the tourist thing and took the speed boat into the falls and then a blast down river where we went on a jungle tour on the back of a four wheel drive. An incredible couple of days.
Final evening we went with the Group to a show. Great food (more steak) and a few hours entertainment in the form of native dances from the countries of South America. Felt a bit like a posh Butlins - same dancers and musicians performing each act, audience participation and a "bit of blue for the Dads" towards the end. Thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.
Following morning, crossed the border into Paraguay and a six hour public bus journey to the capital, Asuncion.
