Day 142: an early start today, we were up at 6 and ready to leave our hostel for 7 and heading to the ferry to take us over to Fraser island. Once over on Fraser island we drove along the beach in a convoy of 8 4x4s, we were in the guides car so didn't get to do any driving, but we will later in the trip. Along the way we spotted a pack of wild dingos. Before we stopped for lunch we did a bit of off roaring through the rainforest, then we made a pinic lunch within our teams. After lunch we headed up too lake McKenzie, the lake is considered a rare lake as it is a fresh water lake but has no rivers running in or out of it, basically it is a giant puddle in the sand. A thick layer of vegetation at the bottom of the lake stopes the water sinking into the sand. After we had a swim and sunbathe a the lake we headed into the rainforest where our guide Luke told us more about how Fraser island was formed. In the evening we headed to our camp. left dingos for fraser island lake mckenzie rainforest walk back to camp where we made steak dinners in our team, had some drinks around the campfire and danced in the camp "nightclub"!
Day 142: today was another early start and whilst having breakfast we joined by a 3 meter long python crawling through the camp! He wasn't a poisonous snake but could give a nasty bite. After breakfast we headed back down the beach and along the way stopped at shipwreck of an old cruise liner that was been towed from melbourne to japan when the chain snapped and the ship beached on Fraser island. We then made our way down to "hangover" creek where we could float down the cool clear fresh water out on to the beach. Luke also told us about a beached whale the was on the beach so went in search for that. After lunch back at camp we headed up to the mother of the island the "champagne" pools, some big rock pools on the beach and then mikey got to do a spot of driving down the beach to Indian head where we climb up to get some great views of the beach. Later that night after dinner in camp some of walked down to the beach and seen the most amazing starry sky, we would see millions of starts and even the milky way galaxy!
Day 143: our last day on Fraser island we packed up our camp and headed back for rainbow beach, on the way we did a hike to some huge sand dunes and a fresh water lake. Then we stopped for lunch and an ice cream before making our back down the island to catch the ferry back to rainbow beach.
Day 144: today was a day of waiting around until we caught our overnight bus to airlie beach
