Hello from Greece,
I am off cruising the Greek Islands, and we are currently on the Island of Patmos, however it is drizzling rain which kind of ruins the beauty of it all. We did stop by Kusadasi Turkey earlier today and visited Ephuses, which is one of the seven wonders of the world, pretty cool. Tomorrow we will be spending the day on the Island of Rhodes, and the next day a half day at Crete and Santorini, then back to Athens to continue the bus part of the tour.
The cruise is quite great, all the food we can eat practically, adn all you can drink for a mere $18 a day, love it. We have daily excursions, or we can sit on the ship and suntan, which I did for a few hours, and got quite burnt.
I seemed to have had the worst luck yesterday. First, I almost missed the bus to the ship, then the porters broke my handle of my suitcase, then I realized my debit card expired, proceeded to break a glass by knocking it over, stubbing my tow, and getting burnt. I wanted to cry! But overall, it ended just fine.
Before setting sail, we visited Athens and the Acropolis and then got a bus tour from a local guide. We had a traditional Greek meal in the Plaka region that involved traditional dancing, and amazing food!!!
Before Athens, we were in the Isle of Capri and Sorrento. The water at Capri was the perfect temperature to soak your feet in. The dinner we had in Sorrento was in a restaurant that almost hung over the water and had the most beautiful view of the sunset, and you all know how much I love taking pictures of sunsets.
From Sorrento, we headed to Pompeii and saw the ruins, which were incredible. I've been waiting to see those for years, and I finally got to. I was amazed at how big the city was and that it was all excavated. Seeing Vesuvius in the background just completed the whole picture. Our tour guide for that was the best yet.
My favorite place remains Venice, but the Greek Islands are catching up! Can't wait for Santorini in a few days. We are already through the halfway point of our adventure, which is hard to believe, but there's so much amazing stuff yet to come, including Silt, Croatia.
I miss you all. I'm a bit sad that I've only heard from a few people so far.
Steve- I'm going through as many desserts as I can, we have unlimited ice cream on the boat, which I love.
