STREET EATS
BBQ chicken, fishballs on sticks, sticky rice in plastic takeaway bags, fresh cut mangoes, papaya, and watermelon, momos, fried cashews, corn on the cob or in a cup with sugar, butter and evaporated milk, pad thai, banana pancakes, iced coffee, Thai style tea, springrolls and soup - you name it and you can get it - for cheap - from a street vendor in Thailand!
It appears to me that Thais are snackers - munching throughout the day on takeaway food as the urge hits. Not many overweight Thais though -people here are lithe (and tiny!) compared to many Canadians so maybe it's their genes, long working hours for many, and healthy food? Don't know, but I've watched with secret envy some of the construction workers heading off to work with small, 3-tiered aluminum steamers - thai lunchboxes - that no doubt are full goodies. I'd like to take one of those steamers back to Canada but I'm pretty sure it won't fit in my backpack!
All the street food options make it easy and fun to be a hungry tourist, with lots of FRESH vegetarian and non-veg options to choose from.
I'm in a new town tonite - named Mae Sot, located on the Thai-Myanmar (Burmese) border, so I wandered around as I usually do, looking for the local market instead of a restaurant for tonites dinner options: pork dumplings, a fresh coconut (for the juice) and mango - from 3 different vendors! Delicious.
Grazing is great, but "Im lao!!" (I'm full!)

Dave & Flo I'm always grazing and never lao!! :-) Your description of the food markets is making me hungry. Those turkeys in the window? Whatever they are, they look yummy. I did get your email this morning and started to respond, but got tied up in a 1/2 dozen other things and never did get back to finishing my response. Will do so over the weekend. Enjoy the grazing!!
Tara Smith Linda I'm so envious of your trip, I can't wait to hear all about it when you get to Saskatoon. I'm really looking forward to seeing you, I've really missed you. Can't wait to hear about your next adventure!!:)
