Eat Pray Love
It's official. I'm a cliche. If you read the book of the same name, the heroine goes off on an adventure and eats her way through Italy (substitute Thailand), goes yoga crazy in India ( substitute Thailand), and finds love in Indonesia (substitute Yellowknife!!)
As for me - I found a great place called Kata Yoga about a 20 minute walk away that offers hot yoga classes - and I'm hooked! Never knew about this type of yoga until now - and as "learning" is one of my goals for my year off - it seems an opportune time to indulge and start this trip off on a healthy note. The class is Bikram Yoga- 26 poses done over 90 minutes in a superheated room- this studio's temperature is about 35C, so you start to sweat as soon as you enter. Then you begin to melt, and as you continue the practice the most amazing little rivers of sweat start running down your body, drip off every limb, and puddle around you. I seriously can't believe I like this. It's kind of disgusting but it feels great! Very energized once I finally recover! I like it so much and am feeling so good that I've decided to extend my stay in Kata Beach for a couple of weeks to take more classes and THEN I'll head over to Koh Lanta for some dive training (more learning!) I love the flexibility of not having to move on if I don't want to.
Today's big decision- I'm NOT going to do Dive Master and SCUBA Instructor training - just taking a Rescue Diver course - which will help me be a better diver. Floating in the water (where I'm sure I do my best thinking) I realized that I just REALLY like to dive - I don't need to be certified in something else. So - decision made!
I've attached a picture from the Kata Hot Yoga studio showing Govert - the studio owner- doing one of the poses I can't do. Yet.
Namaste.

Diana Sproat This is an awesome site!! I will have to see if I can get alerts when you post something. I will probably feel more in touch with you following you on this than I have when you were in Yellowknife! Sounds like the trip is off to a great start. xox
Donna When you're back we can load up the woodstove at your place and you can teach us all. D
Greg K Hi there - Hot Yogi. Glad your enjoying it. Cindy and I are doing it at least once a week and well... yes we have a river of sweat...
Sherry Maljan Okay, clearly Govert is a bit of an attraction - nothing like watching the Greek type god contort himself to get yourself sweating. Tee hee. Glad you are finding you are finding your balance and made some tough decisions about diving. Namaste.
Felicity Trust you to go to a hot place and find something even hotter to do! Have fun!
Michelle Just catching up to you here...So you've gone gaga for Govert, I mean Bikram, good for you. I haven't studied Bikram but I loves me yoga, although, apparently I should be looking for better scenery to compliment my studies
