As my uncle uses to say whenever he can... That's what we did last night when the Hurricane "Irene" came through here.

Well, in fact not really, as it was a lot calmer than expexted, but anyway a lot of the people didn't have electricity this morning and some big trees fell on the streets. We had to close the porch so it wouldn't fly away but in the end Maine was quite lucky, other states such as Vermont got beaten up pretty badly with a lot of flooding and destroyed houses. The only loss we had was the new linden tree my uncle planted just a couple of weeks ago. He wanted to try to give it back because it didn't even last for one Hurricane ;)

That was in fact an exiting end to the visit at my uncle's place in Camden which is a lovely small city with a beautiful harbor that makes every sailor's heart beat a little bit faster.

Before Irene came we had a great time visiting the surroundings of Camden such as Belfast, Bar Harbor, Castene and hiking in the mointains around Camden with their stunning views over the coast of Maine and the numerous bautiful islands.
I have to say, my uncle found himself a great place to live especially his house which is like 10m away from the ocean which I can hear right now lying in bed!

I was welcomed very nicely by his friends who entertained me patiently whenever my uncle wasn't around. Everybody gave me addresses and telephone numbers of their friends from all over the world. All of my uncle's friends have sailed like everywhere on this planet and know so many people, which comes in handy for me right now because of course, knowing locals, that show you around or can even lodge you is the best thing that can happen to you while traveling!

I definitely have to come back here and spend more time exploring this part of the US. Best time is autoumn I was told, as this is the time of the year with the most sun and of course the leafs on the trees start changing the colour which must be absolutely amazing as 90% of Maine is covered in woods!

So definitely worth a visit!
