Okay it's really easy to get to a place and hire a car and go or just stay in the one spot. But we are challenging ourselves this trip and trying not to do it easy ...so today was a travel day, travel day on a Greyhound bus that is!!
We had our usual big breakfast. This morning I was not too impressed with my ham and cheese toasted sandwich. I think the American's do pancakes and omlettes well! And the rest, well they need to keep trying.
We then caught a cab to the bus station and checked in. Seats aren't allocated on buses here! Anyway we got onto the bus with what looked like a bus full of men on parol and crazy people (very comman over here) and little old mexican ladies carrying flowers! No one moved so at least Ella and I could have a seat together, as epsidodes of Crime Scene Investigations and SVU ran though my mind I became one of crazy people and yelled out to people to move so Ella and I could sit together. After mumerings of Spanish and weird looks one of the guys on Parole moved for us (he told us he was on parole). Other than my crazy lady outburst the trip was uneventful!
We made it to San Diego and put our packs on. I felt like I was in my 20's again, although this time we had two little people following us. We made it on the trolley and the bus to our hotel! the hotel. I must say is very average.
We then made our way to Rubios at take away taco shop .... fish taco's yummo!
The kids wanted to rest and swim in the pool so that is what we did.
Dinner was Supersize me aka McDonald's. Seriously a disgusting place. Morghan and Ella were even disgusted! Well at least we can say we did it. Lucky Chris and I stuck to the $4 Seven eleven wine, which was surprising very nice!
Monday 6th September
Woke up and had breakfast supplyed by the hotel...cakes and sugar coated cereals and bad coffee ...mmm not so tastey!
We made our way by bus to SeaWorld!
The dolphin show was amazing with dolphins, birds and accrobats! We then made our way to the penguins which looked as though it was a scence straight out of happy feet and big Emperor Penguins!
Then it was time for the Killer Whales, which were amazing! Graceful and amazing creatures.
We made our way though the rides and finished our day at SeaWorld with a visit to the 'Arctic' where we got to see Polar Bears, Bulga Whales and a Walrus. I found the Walrus quite cute actually!
On our way home we stopped at the Old Town, to a little square that looked like it was straight out of Mexico! We ate in a little Mexican resturant called La Paloma, and we orded way to much. Chris and I enjoyed our Margarettia's which were size of fish bowls! The food was amazing .... nothing like Montazoma's!
Exhusted we made it on the bus back to our hotel!
Tuesday 7th of September
Why did we come to San Diego you may ask .....the answer is simple .....PANDA!
Yes I love them! Morghan and Ella like them but me I love them! So today we were off to see these big friendly giants!
We made our way once again after our sugar breakfast to the zoo on public transport!
We started our adventure with a tour of the zoo! I must say the zoo is huge! Then after visiting the wild cats and a couple of other aniamls we made our way to the Panda's!
The Panda's were playful and active, not what I was expecting! We could have watched them for hours! My personal favorite was Su Lin, only because she is named after one of my friend's (well maybe they just share the same name). But she was beautiful!
The day consisted of more animals and another visit to the polar bears! And a trip on the sky rail over the zoo ....did I mention the zoo is huge!
We left the zoo early to do a tour of the city! And made our way via everywhere it felt to the old town! Only to be told the tours had finished! Oh well there is always next time.
So we then decieded to make it to Gas Lamp to the diner Gem told us about! Once there we were told it had moved somewhere between Seaworld and the Old Town! Big decision do we try and find it or do we eat at one of the hundreds of resturants in Old Town...........answer we were starving, so Gas Lamp won and so did the Spagetti House! It was great and portion sizes more to our liking!
We then went shopping and no I didn't buy shoes ....Chris did!
We then made our way back and packed up our stuff, ready for our next adventure .......................DISNEYLAND!
