We just can't get enough of Lake Titicaca. Back on the boat again today to visit islands from Peru side.
The biggest attraction are the floating islands called Los Uros. A strange concept that was explained to us by the President of the Island. He got out all his miniature houses and built a tiny island. I wont go into the details but their whole life revolves around a reed - they even eat it!
They also showed us their lovely selection of dried potatoes, fish and chicken. I was glad we weren't staying here for lunch. We were allowed to wander and Aidan and I found their TV, obviously too many tourists had bought their miniature reed boats.
Our boat journey continued further into the centre of Lake Titicaca. It was almost a 3 hour journey so our guide gave us a little Geography lesson. Aidan loved the bit when maps where handed around the boat.
Isla Taquile is an enchanting little island as they have stuck to their traditional ways. All the men wear hats, red if they are married and white if they are single. So it was easy to spot all the eligible young batchelors. Plus every boy from the age of 8 learns to knit. No crime here, they all sit on the street corners knitting!
Had lunch with our tour group who were a barrel of laughs (not). They looked horrified when Aidan and I asked for beer with our meal.
On the way back we ran into the local flock of sheep, a kodak moment not to be missed! I love this photo.
Katie.
