Well after a pause in updates I shall finally update! Well I thoroughly enjoyed Melbourne. After going on the internet on the Friday we moved rooms to a much nicer one upstairs where we weren't awoken by peoploe trying to break the door down. We went up the Rialto Tower where we got good views of Melbourne and Louise asked an American to take a photo and he thought she said 'thank you Yank' (which she didn't). We went around on the free city circle tram and saw the 'history' oooo it's so old!!!!!!! We went to the Immigration Centre which was really interesting and we got to see who they let in Nowadays, I think we should take a leaf out of their book. I never realised how nearly all Australians are not Australian!
Then we went to Federation Square and booked the Neighbours tour (yes I did get forced into it). In the evening we had a delicious Vietnamese for under a fiver.
SAT: We arose and had a cold shower (the damn hostel is the worst ever) and went to the Victoria Market which is massive and very hectic and there is raw meat flying everywhere! We got called pom's a few times and told that the English aren't 'so bad' HELLO! Most of them are English! Anyway then we went back to Federation Square and saw 2 English blokes doing acrobatics and then another English man doing 'comedy'. There was also a Jazz band playing as it's their music festival at the moment. Then in the evening we hit the CASINO!!! I was very excited after reading Brett's 'Bringing down the house' in NZ. Really wanted to see some card counters and look at the 'eye in the sky'. It used to be the biggest casino in the world but is now the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. It is huge. A whole world of it's own. There are CCTV cameras everywhere. We met Louise's friend Sean from Uni who lives in Melbourne and he had to take his hat off so they could get a good shot of him. There are no clocks in there and you can tell some people have been sitting there for decades. Anyway I decided to have a go at backjack. I put in $30 (about 13 quid) oh it was so exciting. Anyway I won and won and won again, then I lost and stopped playing. hahaha. Felt like I got one over on them there! I was tempted to carry on but I had over doubled my money and I like money! Anyway I ended up with over 2 hours paper shuffling money just for betting for 10 mins- amazing! I kept a chip for a souvenir. We then went to the bar upstairs where I was talking to some Australian woman called Di, which I likened to Princess Di, although this one is Australian and alive!
On Sunday we went on the Neighbours tour (snore snore) where we met some 'celebrity' called Janelle or something like that. I pretended to be Beth so Beth you have a signed postcard! Then we went to St Kilda where Sean lives. It's really nice there and it was a really hot day. The beach is nice and sharkless! Then we went to see an Australian football match. After finding out the rules it was really good. We saw the Bulldogs v The Demons and the Bulldogs won which I was pleased about as their kit was nicer! They have their own theme tunes and I can now sing the Bulldog one! That night we went to get our free meal from the hostel which consisted of a spoonful of 'curry' mmmm.Â
On Monday we picked up Bitsy (so called after her reg plate and a German woman iin NZ). She is a YMCA van with the pics of the group on the side and 'beauty is in the eye of the beerholder' on the back! Driving our of Melbourne was a little hair raising espec as I didn't realise til we we were going along that the indicator is on the right and the wind screen wipers are on the left. So we were wind screen wiping instead of indicating for a while! We went through a toll road without paying and I only got beeped at one for not going when I should beacuse I thought the tram was going to cut across the front when it wasn't! We also went through a car wash as we thought it was a petrol station. Anyway ever since then it's been fine and me and Louise have mastered Bisty. She can't go up hills very well and slows down quickly but other than that is fine. We spent our 1st night by the beach in Lang Lang which was tiny and the local shop man told us exactly where to go for the whole of the rest of the trip! Driving here is so easy, the roads are just one lane and hardly anyone is on them and there aren't really any motorways and there are plenty of over taking lanes. We saw massive transparent jelly fish washed up on the beach at Lang Lang and paid our road toll in the post office! Managed to sleep quite well, can't stretch out properly but it's worse for Brett and Louise!
