Iguazu Falls are on right on the border of Brazil and Argentina and not far away from the Paraguayan border also. Puerto Iguazu is the town, on the Argentine side, that has the best proximity to Iguazu Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Puerto Iguazu largely derives all of its tourism from the falls and whilst the town is pleasant enough, it has nothing other than the falls really going for it.
I would try and describe the fantastic sight that Iguazu Falls is, but really it is hard to do it justice. In this regard, I recommend that you look at the photos from Puerto Iguazú on the blog to get an idea of their grandeur.
The legend behind the falls is a nice story though. As legend has it, a God was going to marry a beautiful indigenous mortal woman, however the woman, already deeply in love, fled down stream with her mortal lover. In a tempestuous rage the god sliced the river from beneath the fleeing lovers dooming them to an eternal fall. Thus, the beautiful falls we created that we now get to savour.
Em and I only spent a couple of nights in Puerto Iguazu as really there was not much else to observe in the small city. Although, whilst there I did get time to see Chelsea, my team, lose to Manchester United in the Champions League Final in penalties, so disappointing.
So we are once more on road. This time off to visit Florianopolis and experience the beaches of Brazil for the very first time.
