I was pretty knackered when I arrived to Busan as an old Japanese guy on the ferry had insisted I stay up for a couple drinks with him, despite the severe language barrier! The hostel in Busan was the only one in the area, sandwiched between two Uni's and surrounded by a grid of bars, restaurants and clubs. I went along to an all you can drink session in the hostels bar with a few lads from the dorm. This quickly led to white russians in some of the uni bars and a drum solo on a kit in the corner of one. I was soon asked to pipe down as I was drowning out the club tunes and told to come back on open mic night, though not with much enthusiasm!
Busan's a great city as you have the mountains on one side, beaches on the other and the city life in between. I made ways to a temple in the mountains on the outskirts of the city the following afternoon. I didn't anticipate how long it'd take to reach though and made it there after the sun had gone down, so it was just me and the buddhists that had shown to pray. An old man got off the same bus and asked where I was from. Though this seemed to be the only English he knew, he did manage to get it through to me that he was the guitarist in a Santana-style band. Once he'd found out I was English we started singing some Beatles tunes in unison, Yesterday being the popular choice! I returned to the temple the next day to catch the temple/mountains in full, definitely worth the 2nd visit!
