We rented a car today for 25 Euros for 24 hours, including full insurance and to-our-door delivery, after making an inquiry at the front desk an hour earlier. That's a great price and a great service! We stopped at a grocery store and grabbed a picnic lunch for the beach including Milko - skimmed chocolate milk- a new favourite of Connor and Tessa's which they are drinking twice a day, everyday. We drove out to the Red Beach, so called because of the incredible red lava rock that makes up the cliff's backdrop to this amazing place. We had our picnic, and then we swam, despite the huge amount of natural debris (sea weeds, leaves, etc.) in the water which daunted a few. However, we, being seasoned ocean swimmers, timed the waves and entered when the waves were lower, thereby avoiding a debris-filled slap in the face wave. We left the Red Beach and headed to Caldera Beach, which is used by the Santorini Dive Center for snorkelling and diving excursions. To our surprise, very few people were there. There was beautiful black sand - finer than at Perissa - and only six other people. The water was crystal clear and became quite deep very close to shore. To top it off, there was a cliff from which the boys jumped into the sea a couple of times. This beach was a definite favourite of Barry and the kids. After that, we headed to Pergos. After a quick drive through town, we saw Santo Winery, a place recommended by the Washington, DC couple the night before. For ten euros, we were given six (small) glasses of wine to taste, complete with bread, cheese, and olives. We loved a dry red wine called "Yoydomato" with a light ruby colour, distinct bouquet and soft taste. It was a delight, so we had another glass and watched the sun go down for the second time in two nights. Barry applauded, which caused everyone to follow suit, delighted by what they thought was a spontaneous moment. Great day!
