We slept in again this morning. After breakfast, the children went for a swim in the hotel pool, while we bit the bullet and made full payment on our India trip.
In the afternoon, Margaret and Barry walked to the Coop to buy more food, and left the kids with the laptop to work on an interactive math unit on the Internet, courtesy of Black Gold School Division and Alberta Learning. That evening, we had a great supper of pork chops and potatoes, again prepared on the hotplate in our room.
After dinner, Barry and Margaret went to the open air lobby (where we get free WiFi), and checked email, updated our blog, etc., while also visiting with our new Canadian friends. We met another one tonight - he's from Toronto, but has been travelling since November. He makes a living buying expired Internet domain names or finding ones that have never been registered, and linking them through to sites such as Google. For example, he'll take a common word, such as 'table', and then look for the status of www.table.com, www.table.ca, etc. Then he makes money on every hit!
We haven't fully described our hostel yet. It's called 'Anny Studios', and is the cheapest one that we've stayed in so far (12 Euros / pp / night). However, it can best be described as a resort even though Barry found it on www.hostelbookers.com. When searching for hostels, after entering the obvious (Country, City/Town), he then sorts the results by rating. This is the average rating given by all of the travellers who have stayed there (and chosen to provide a rating). Anny Studios was one of the highest rated places in all of Santorini. Better yet, it was one of the cheapest! Here's an excerpt from the description on the website:
Anny Studios are situated at the centre of Perissa, 30 meters from the beach (the location couldn't be better!). We offer free transfer upon arrival to our studios. Our place has a swimming pool, children's pool, a snack bar next to the pool, satellite TV in the lobby or you can choose a movie from the studio's extensive and varied selection (over 100 DVD's) WI-FI in lobby for free! Free playstation 2 with many games at our lobby, laundry machine to use for free, internet corner, reception services, foreign exchange, transfers, car and motor rentals. You can also book tours around the island and our unique volcano! All studios have a bath, balcony, full kitchen equipment, satellite TV, fridge, safe box and air-conditioning. The rooms are cleaned daily (free new towels every day and new sheets every other day,) there is hot water available 24 hours! We serve breakfast at our pool bar all day!
Everything's true! The only place that we stayed where our rooms were larger was our 'villa' in Mucigliani. And, similar to Mucigliani, it has a loft with two beds where the Connor and Tessa slept, while Barry and Margaret slept on the main floor. Anny Studios has a wonderful staff who make cappuccino for us in the morning, serve us free ouzo in the evening (first shaken with ice, then poured into shot glasses - the bartender always has one with us!), and gives excellent advice about sightseeing, car rentals, and so on. Anny Studios rocks!
