We departed around 10am and stopped at the Parndana IGA for some supplies and morning tea before heading towards Western Kangaroo Island. We checked into the Western KI Caravan Park where we'll stay for the next 3 nights. It's a lovely place - even though it's full, it's nice and spacious. Mum, Renee & Eamon went on the Koala Walk and saw a dozen wallabies, a koala and a couple of large kangaroos, while Dad unhitched the van. We went straight into Flinder's Chase National Park and down to Cape du Couedic where we ventured around the Remarkable Rocks with its giant granite boulders balancing on the cliff edge 75 metres above the Southern Ocean, and Admirals Arch with its dozens of New Zealand fur seals - interesting, but very smelly.
We drove around to the Platypus Waterholes, but no sightings today - we spotted a goanna crossing the road on the way home though, and during dinner back at the campsite, there was much excitement as a small koala was actually sitting on the ground just opposite our van, then made its way slowly up a tree for a snack of leaves, then found a perfect sleeping spot. It was within touching distance and didn't seem scared with about 20 people watching and taking photos, but we all left it alone and just marvelled at its cuteness.
