So far in our trip we have seen many, many temples and even the biggest temple of the world 'Angkor Wat' which is a wonder of the world. This was also the first temple we visited. This was a bad move as any temples that we visit after this are nowhere near as impressive and the amount of temples in Asia means it is easy to get into the 'Templed out' state of mind we currently adopt. Nevertheless, we booked a trip to the My Son (pronounced Mee Son) Hindu temples today. The tours are a great way to see more than just the places we stay and these temples are labelled as must see. On arrival we think "Must see what?!?". The reason for this is that we enter a field of two to three foot walls in rectangles. The guide tells us that "The U.S. Army bombed this sight to the ground during war","The U.S. Army bombed this sight to the ground during war","The U.S. Army bombed this sight to the ground during war". That is not a typo, he actually said every sentence three times all day (no exaggeration), as if he had nothing to say. It later turns out that he had nothing to say and the Americans in the group began to get tired of him asking "Is there no regulation for guides in this country?". Luckily there were temples still standing in the other areas but at first it seemed like we had made a huge mistake. To enjoy the day we had to ignore the tour guide and just realise where we were. At the foot of a huge mountain arrangement rolling into the distance showing off the true highland beauty of Vietnam. The boat trip back to the city was relaxing but yet again "rice surprise' was served for lunch dragging back the memories of our first two weeks at the orphanage. The guide promised us a BBQ but on entry to the boat declared it to be a joke. Not a joking matter clearly.
When back to the old town the classic situation occurred.
