It was a wonderful day today. I had to get up early since my tour left at 7 am to the Mayan ruins at Tikal.
The Guatemalan border is very close to the resort so it was only a 5 minute drive there and about 15 minutes to exit B Elise then enter Guatemala. From there, it was about a 2 hour drive to Tikal with one stop at a touristy place to try some Guatemalan coffee.
I was lucky today. I had a special trip alone. Normally the trip to Tikal is Tues and Fri, so Kim and Ron were nice enough to make special arrangements just for me.
At Tikal, I spent about 4 hours walking around to see the Mayan ruins and restoration with the guide. Between the ruins, we walked through heavy forest/jungle. At a couple of the buildings, you actually get a chance to climb to the top and see the ruins. At temple 4, the tallest structure, you get to see the jungle canopy with 3 of the buildings poking through. Very impressive.
I also had some luck today, and we came across numerous monkeys, both howler and spider monkeys. There were also a few unique birds to see, though we didn't see any toucans unfortunately. Maybe next time.
The drive to and from Tikal was scenic too, seeing the countryside of Peten in Guatemala. In the morning there was a bit of fog/mist so that added to the beauty.
Another busy day! I guess that's it for now!
