Wow, how the time flies!! I have almost been here for 2 months now! Spent the first 5 weeks living at my friend Becky's house, I stayed on her sofa, which actually was very comfortable! I'm now living in a house with Gareth in a suburb called Preston, which is really cool; it is only 45 mins from the city. The house is really nice, we have both got our own double bedrooms each, mine has got a walk-in wardrobe which is ace, and also doubles up as my computer room. The house belongs to a couple called Lexii and Chris, who also live with us at the back of the house, they pretty much let us do our own thing, and treat the house as our own, which is really cool, although we have drawn the line at having any crazy parties!!
Gareth and I went on a road trip to Sydney about 1 month ago, WOW how amazing was this: we hired a camper van for 6 days and drove there, the journey to Sydney took us about 12 hours, but luckily the sun was shining, so we just plugged in our iPod, cranked up the volume and off we set.
We met up with 2 off our travelling buddies, Charmaine (AKA Champergod), and Kerry. These 2 girls have become particularly close friends of ours through no fault of theirs, lol. Basically we met them on a bus in Thailand on our way from Bangkok to THE ISLAND (Koh Phangan); they were doing the same trip as us to attend the “Full Moon Party”. We were pretty much staying in the same area, so hung around with these guys for most of the time, after the incident they pretty much spent their whole time on the Island visiting me in Hospital, which I’m sure must be a highlight of their travels. I always looked forward to when Gareth and the girls visited as I was pretty much always guaranteed to be presented with a KFC, obviously I would have been just as happy with only their company, lol.
So yeah Sydney was pretty cool, stayed in the camper van on a local camp site. Did the usual sightseeing around Sydney city centre, Opera House, Bridge etc, which was really cool. The rest of the time was spent partying with Charmaine & Kerry in the city centre.
The journey home we decided to take a different route – The Princess Highway (Route 1), although this added another 3 hours onto our travelling time it was totally worth it, this route took us along the coastal road from Sydney to Melbourne, and we encountered some of the most breathtaking views, which was awesome.
I started a job about 3 weeks ago; I am currently working at a place called Degani cafe/bakery, which is also a restaurant in the evenings, I am enjoying this job for the moment but I think that I am going to find a job in a hotel in the city.
Have met so many awesome people, and made loads of cool friends already. I really feel at home here now, and can’t wait for what excitement the next 10 months has in store for us.
Melbourne is a truly stunning city, it is so busy and vibrant as you would expect, but it is so laid back. As you can imagine there is more than enough clubs and bars to keep me and Gareth entertained into the early hours of the morning, although I have been good and not ventured out for 2 weeks now, as to stem the downward flow of my funds.
Catch up soon.
