well, have a bit of time today before we leave bangkok for good for the khao sok national park by yet another overnight train. so thought i'd write a bit about what we have seen so far.
bangkok is absolutely massive and incredibly busy. there is a little street that we walk up from our hotel to khao san road and it is just crammed with street stalls. everythin u can tihnk of but mainly clothes and food. everythin is soooo cheap too. the food stalls cooke just about everythin in a thai cookery book, from pad thai to spring rolls to fish and rice and curry and everythin in between!! can usually pick somethin up for about 30baht which is about 50p and it is really filling!
khao san road - where east meets west apparently. is again full of street stalls and bars. get a bit of hassle from people tryin to sell stuff especially at night but durin the day is a bit calmer (we r actually on khao san road now!!)
the money is like monopoly money! it is all paper and very few coins. you can barter for things on the stalls which we have been doin. think it is more of a sport than anythin else coz u can end up hagglin over 50p! hardly seems worth it when i put it like that! haha
bangkok has a funny smell. there wasn't really a smell in chinag mai but it hit us as soon as we came back to bangkok. think it is a mixture of all the cookin smells in the street, exhaust fumes and heat! it doesn't smell all that nice!
i haven't yet used a hairdryer or straighteners on my hair. and i have all but given up on make up for the time bein! ha
and finally...we can NOT find salt and vinegar crisps anywhere! colette is abit of a crisp fan and salt and vinegar r her favourite! the first night we got seaweed (yep....seaweed crisps!!!) because they were in a green packet and had thai writin on the front! They were disgusting. every since then been very careful about the crisps!
headin to a national park on the overnight train later so might not be able to get on the internet for a few days as our new guide (seen) said there weren't any atm's so imaginin there aren't any internet cafes either!
